A ZenBusiness Alternative Priced the Same in Year Six

That is a conflict, and you should read the paragraphs about us with it in mind. The ZenBusiness figures are a different matter. They come off that company's own published rate sheet, and verifying them yourself is about a two-minute job we would encourage.

The Interface Earns Its Praise

ZenBusiness has built the most polished console in this category, and opening by pretending otherwise would cost the rest of the page its credibility. Formation filings, compliance prompts, and incoming agent mail all land in one account, laid out by people who clearly cared how it looked and how it worked. If what you want is a business admin dashboard that happens to include the agent role, that is a defensible purchase.

$99 Starts It, $199 Keeps It

Buy the agent role by itself, with no formation package sitting underneath it, and the opening term is priced at $99 plus state fees. Once the first renewal lands, the rate becomes $199 annually. Both figures are published and neither one is a trick. The second is what governs your Massachusetts spending, because an LLC here needs an agent in every year it stays registered, and companies routinely outlast their first twelve months by a wide margin.

The work behind the price does not change when the price does. Somebody has to sit at a Massachusetts street address through business hours and take a summons from a process server. That duty in year seven is the duty in year one. What moved was the invoice.

It goes to the Corporations Division of the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and the authority behind it is M.G.L. c. 156C § 5A.

Here the Commonwealth prices the channel rather than the change. File the statement electronically and it costs nothing. Print the same page, put it in an envelope or carry it to the counter, and it is $25. The state is not charging you to replace ZenBusiness. It is charging you for paper.

Two mechanical points before you file. The address you list has to be a street address, since a post office box does not satisfy the Commonwealth's rule for a resident agent office. And separately from the agent line, your LLC carries its own duty to keep an office in Massachusetts where its required records live. Hiring an agent settles the first obligation, not the second.
