Massachusetts Registered Agent Reviews: A Price Book for 2026

Fair warning before the table: we sell this service, and the company at the top of the list is us. MA Registered Agent.org put the page together, so read our own entry the way you would read any seller describing itself. The prices are not opinion. Each one came off a vendor's published rate sheet in July 2026, and that includes the one number that lands below ours.

Those were the advertised rates when we recorded them in July 2026. Companies here revise their pricing quietly and often, so pull up the current figure yourself before paying anyone, this site included.

Why We Put Ourselves at the Top

Five things, and all five are checkable. Papers served on us at our Massachusetts office get scanned into your portal before the day ends, with an email so you know a clock has started running. You pay $99 a year. When renewal comes around the number has not moved, because a second-year rate was never part of how we priced this. Checkout has one item in it. The address that goes on your public filing is ours, which for owners working out of a house is the entire point. And the single extra fee we charge, $15 to scan a piece of ordinary business mail, is printed right here instead of showing up later.

What we are not is the lowest price on the page. BetterLegal lists $90 a year, so by published sticker the cheapest registered agent service in Massachusetts belongs to them and not to us, by nine dollars. Here is what we will say instead. Among the flat annual prices in this book ours is one of the lowest, it covers same-day scanning rather than treating that as an add-on, and it will still read $99 the year your business turns ten.

The Eight Other Services, Ranked

2. Northwest Registered Agent

Northwest is who we would point people toward if we were not in this business ourselves. Their prices are printed, their phone gets answered by staff, and they treated owner privacy as a duty long before it turned into a marketing angle. Two things to know before you compare. The free year rides along with a formation order and exists nowhere else; buy the agent service on its own and it is $125 annually. Reaching the $100 rate takes registrations in five states or more, which is not what a Massachusetts small business looks like. Assume $125 every year and run your numbers from there.

3. BetterLegal

No published renewal on this page goes lower than BetterLegal's $90, and we confirmed that ourselves in July 2026 instead of trusting a roundup. What we could not locate was any clear statement of what the first year costs. That gap is why they sit third on a list organized around prices you can read in advance. Anyone who gets to their order form, reads the opening terms, and likes what they see is buying a cheap agent, and we would rather admit that than pretend the nine dollars is not real.

4. Rocket Lawyer

Rocket Lawyer keeps agent service at $125 a year and does not move that number for any membership level, which is more straightforward than most of this industry manages. The price is not the problem. The product's shape is. You are joining a legal subscription that sells contract templates and lawyer calls, and the agent seat rides along inside it. Use the rest of it and $125 is easy to defend. Want a Massachusetts address, quick scans, and nothing else, and you are renting a whole building to sit in one room of it.

5. ZenBusiness

ZenBusiness has the nicest dashboard in the group and we are not going to argue about that. Look hard at how the two years are priced, though. Agent service bought on its own runs $99 plus state fees to start, then $199 a year once the renewal lands. Your Massachusetts entity needs an agent for as long as it stays registered, so the second-year price is the one that matters to you. At $199 you are handing over an extra $100 every single year for software you sign into twice.

6. Bizee (formerly Incfile)

Bizee used to be Incfile, and it hands out free agent coverage with its formation packages, running anywhere from three months to twelve depending on what you bought. If Bizee was forming your company anyway, take the free months. Just write down the date they run out. After that the service costs $149 a year, and the reason people get caught by it is exactly that it started free and never asked for any attention.

7. LegalZoom

Two hundred forty-nine dollars a year is the top flat price on this list. It renews on its own, and our July 2026 look turned up no opening discount anywhere. What the premium buys is the name everyone recognizes. What it does not buy is any extra weight with the Corporations Division, which wants the same three things from every agent no matter the price: a street address in Massachusetts, somebody there during business hours, and your documents handed over fast. Two and a half times our rate for the identical statutory job is the trade on offer.

8. Swyft Filings

Swyft's $149 buys a quarter, not a year. Run the multiplication and twelve months lands near $596, the most expensive line in the book by a distance, and we found nothing that knocks it down for new customers. Splitting a bill into quarters makes it feel smaller than it is, but four payments of $149 do not total less than $596. Worth noting for a Massachusetts LLC: that is more than the state charges for the annual report.

9. Inc Authority

Year one is free. Year two is a mystery. In July 2026 we searched their premium package pages, then the FAQ, then the homepage itself, and not one of the three prints a renewal figure, which usually means you hear it at checkout or from somebody on the phone. This list ranks on prices you can read before you pay, so no published price lands in last place. The free year is real. The silence that comes after it is the part worth noticing.

Changing Agents: $0 Online, $25 on Paper

Massachusetts has its own name for the job, and the switching form is where you run into it. The document is the Statement of Change of Resident Agent/Resident Office, authorized by c. 156C § 5A and submitted to the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Corporations Division. Not registered agent. Resident agent, because that is what the statute and the Corporations Division call the role, and it is what will appear on your paperwork regardless of which company in the table you hire.

The fee depends entirely on how you send it in. Filed electronically, it costs nothing. Printed and mailed or hand delivered, it is $25. Sent by fax, it is $25 plus another $6. Free is a rare word on a state fee schedule where so many line items begin with a five. Nobody on this list can hold your appointment hostage or invent an exit charge, since leaving costs you nothing but the time it takes to fill out one form. A $500 Bill on a Date Nobody Else Shares

The Massachusetts annual report is $500 by mail and $520 filed electronically or by fax, the extra $20 being an expedite charge the Commonwealth requires on those channels rather than one you opt into. It ranks among the steepest LLC annual report fees in the country. Forming the company in the first place costs the same, with the Certificate of Organization priced at $500 through the mail or over the counter and $520 across the electronic and fax channels.

The timing is what makes an agent worth having. The deadline is the anniversary of the day your certificate went on file, and it belongs to your company alone, which means every LLC in the state runs on its own date and none of them share a cutoff you might hear about secondhand. Filing online through the Corporations Division portal also takes a Customer ID and a PIN, credentials that arrive on paper rather than sitting in your inbox. Miss the anniversary and there is no late fee to settle up, because the penalty is heavier than a fine: the Corporations Division can dissolve the company administratively, a power it holds under 950 CMR 112.22.

Put plainly, in a state where staying registered costs $500 a year, handling the mail stops being a convenience. A notice that goes unread costs you the notice and then the company.

Who Can Hold the Job, and Whose Address Goes Public

Under M.G.L. c. 156C § 5, the agent can be an individual who lives in Massachusetts, a domestic corporation, or a foreign corporation authorized to do business here. The Corporations Division regulation, 950 CMR 112.13, adds other business entities authorized by law and qualified in the Commonwealth. Every service in the table clears that bar without difficulty.

The address rule is stricter than the eligibility rule. The agent's office has to be a street address, and the regulation says plainly that a post office address does not count. There is a second duty people miss as well: the LLC itself must keep an office in the Commonwealth where its required records live. An agent covers the first of those, not the second.

For anyone weighing an individual against a company, the part we care most about is what happens after the filing. Whatever street address goes on that line becomes a public entry in the Corporations Division database, searchable by anybody with a browser and a motive. That is why our address is the product.

Picking a Line From the Book

All nine names qualify under § 5, so what is left over is money, speed, and whether a company tells you the second-year price before it takes your card. One of them bills by the quarter and lands near $596. One will not print a renewal. The famous one is $249. We are $99 now and $99 later, documents scanned the day they show up, with a Massachusetts street address carrying the public record entry that would otherwise carry yours.
