A Free First Year and an Unpriced Second One

The argument on this page is that published prices beat unpublished ones, and it is being made by a company selling a published price. MA Registered Agent.org owns this site. Since the whole point is that nobody should be inventing figures, no figure below is invented, including the one we could not find.

The Free Year Is Genuine

Inc Authority includes registered agent service at no cost for twelve months alongside its formation packages. We looked for the conditions offers like that usually carry, an activation charge, a term quietly shorter than advertised, a clause reclaiming the value if you cancel, and did not find them stated. For a founder watching the first year's outflows, a mandatory service supplied at zero is worth taking.

That lands harder in this state than most, because Massachusetts front-loads its costs. Bringing the company into existence runs $500, or $520 if you file electronically. Anything that comes off the first-year total in a quarter like that is real.

The Second Year Has No Posted Figure

What Inc Authority does not publish is the renewal. We went through the package pages, the questions section, and the home page in July 2026, and no agent renewal rate appears in any of them. The pattern this market follows suggests the figure gets delivered at the order form or during a sales call.

Filling that blank with a guess is not something we will do. The structural point stands without one. A registered agent is a permanent line item, the renewal therefore determines what the arrangement actually costs, and a rate held off the page leaves the comparison unfinished at exactly the moment you need it finished.

Both of Our Numbers Are on the Site

$99 at signup, $99 at every renewal, and both sit on the pricing page before you order anything. What sits around them: documents served on us in Massachusetts scanned the same business day and emailed to you, our street address occupying the public resident agent field so yours does not, one product at checkout with nothing to decline, an anniversary reminder before the report falls due, and a single optional extra at $15 per scanned item of general mail.

We are not the lowest. BetterLegal prints $90. Ours is among the lowest published flat rates in Massachusetts, and unlike the column beside it, both of its years are legible today.

Changing Agents Before an Unquoted Invoice Arrives

Set the two sides against each other. The Inc Authority renewal has no known price and an unknown date. The Massachusetts exit has a known price of nothing and no date at all.

The filing is the Commonwealth's Statement of Change for the resident agent and the resident office, handled by the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Corporations Division; electronically it costs nothing, on paper $25. There is no window, no season, and no waiting period, so a business day inside the free year works exactly as well as one after it.

Why the seat should never be empty is worth putting plainly. Massachusetts backs its filing requirements with something heavier than a late charge: under 950 CMR 112.22 the Corporations Division may administratively dissolve an LLC that stops filing, and the agent is who receives the notices that keep you filing. So the successor gets appointed first, the statement gets filed second, the record gets checked third, and the Inc Authority account gets closed last. Handled in that order, a renewal nobody ever quoted you never gets the chance to post. The mechanics are on our change of agent page.
